Looking for something more? Would you like to be able to rent in our studio? If you have already enjoyed our first and second experience classes, you may be interested in learning more. Our series classes let you dig deeper and get more hands-on experience working with glass. These classes meet over several weeks and are offered several times each year.
Hot 1: Intro to Glassblowing

Age: 12 to Adult
Duration: 3 hours per evening x 4 evenings (12 hours total)

Cost: $575/person
Learn the glass blowing basics in this multi-week course. You will learn to gather molten glass from the furnace and shape it into various forms with a focus on the simple blown vessel. The instruction will focus on a team approach to glassblowing, with an emphasis on safety, proper tool use, basic techniques, and materials. This class is appropriate for students with limited or no hot shop experience.
Students should wear close-toed shoes and clothes made from natural fibers (such as cotton or linen). Students should bring a notebook or sketchbook, a water bottle and snacks (if desired). Please review our Cancellation Policy.
Hot 2: Advance Your Glassblowing

Age: 12 to Adult
Duration: Instruction Time: 4 hours per evening x 5 evenings (20 hours total) Meets on Tuesday evenings, 5:00-9:00 pm July 22, 29, August 05, 12, 19.
Group Practice Time: 3 hours per evening x 5 evenings (15 hours total) Meets on Thursday evenings, 5:00-8:00 pm on July 24, 31, August 7, 14, 21

In this five week course that meets on Tuesdays from 5:00-9:00pm and Thursdays from 6:00-9:00 pm, you will expand on the skills you learned from the Hot Glass I series. This class includes 20 hours of instructor class time and 20 hours of group practice time. You will gain confidence and independence in the studio. The class will focus on learning new shapes, how to handle more glass, and working as a team. You will also be introduced to how to add color to your objects. Once the course completed you will be eligible for unsupervised access to the Hot Shop during staffed hours, after safe proficiency with equipment and tools has been demonstrated. Stained Glass 1: Intro to Stained Glass

Age: 14 to Adult
Duration: 3 hours per evening x 4 evenings (12 hours total)

This class introduces students to the art of stained glass. Students will work with an artist to select a manageable pattern and then select the colorful glass. The student will learn how cut and shape the glass, foil each piece, and solder the pieces together in a frame. Basic materials provided. Class meets for a total of 12 hours. Stained Glass 2: Advance Your Stained Glass Skill Set

Age: 14 to Adult
Duration: 3 hours per evening x 4 evenings (12 hours total) Meets Tuesdays, 6:00-9:00 pm, July 15, 22, 29, August 05

Students with continue their stained glass education by building and refining the skills they learned in Stained Glass 1. Students will be introduced to lead working as well as creating larger and more advanced designs. Basic materials provided. Class meets for a total of 12 hours. Please review our Cancellation Policy.
Intro to Flameworking -
Torching with Soft Glass

Age: 12 to Adult
Duration: 3 hours per evening x 4 evenings (12 hours total)

Cost: $375/person
We teach you to take rods of glass (about the size of a long pencil) and turn them into beads using table-top mounted torches. You will use the fame to get the tip of your glass molten and then twirl the hot glass around a small steel rod to create your own beads.
In this 12 hour course, students will work in a small group, each at a torch, as an artist teaches the techniques involved in making flame-worked beads. Topics including creating basic shapes, tooling, dot application, and stringers. Students will also learn about preparing a mandrel and annealing beads. A great way to create glass art without the heat of the furnace!

Intro to Flameworking -
Torching with Borosilicate Glass

Age: 12 to Adult
Duration: 3 hours per evening x 5 evenings (15 hours total)

Ready to take your flameworking to a new level? In this class, you will learn how to use borosilicate glass on a Red Max torch to begin making larger and more advanced glass sculptures. You will learn the basics of blown glass tubing and color application.
After completing this class, students are eligible to rent Columbus Glass Art Center torches with instructor approval and continue to make glass work on their own. Previous completion of Torch 1: Soft Glass is not required. Please review our Cancellation Policy.
Kiln 1:
Intro to Fused Glass & Slumping Series

Age: 10 to Adult
Duration: 3 hours per evening x 4 evenings (12 hours total)
Experience Level Recommended: Beginner, no experience necessary
Class Size (Number of students): 4 minimum/6 maximum
Cost: $375/person
In this multi day course students will learn the basics of fusing and slumping. Topics covered include fusing temperatures for tack, full fuse, and slumping; cutting and layering glass; working with frit, powder and stringers; incorporating copper and dichroic glass; using slump molds; and applying decals. We will supply all basic material, and a small supply of colored glass. Students may choose to purchase additional color.
After this class, students are eligible to rent Columbus Glass Art Center fusing kilns with instructor approval. No experience necessary; beginners are welcome. This class runs for 12 hours total over 4 sessions.
